The square is being renovated as part of the construction of the tram route to the train station.

On Wednesday, Luxtram revealed new images and a new vision of the transformation of this iconic location in the capital.

In a press release, Luxtram and the Luxembourg City authorities offered some details about the future of Place de Paris.

“This will be a square with weekly markets, local festivals and cultural events, pleasant to wander around by foot or by bike, with benches under the trees near the fountain.”

The reinvigorated area will be a place for meeting with friends, but also an ideal location for strolling, in contrast to the traffic chaos of recent months. But before this is possible, a new phase of work will have to be completed.

Building already commenced on Monday on the ‘even-numbered side’, and will be followed on the odd-numbered side of the street next week. The work that will take place over the next few months will complete the installation of the tram line from LuxExpo to the train station. Construction on Place de Paris will occur in three phases, and should end in July 2021.

In the meantime, Luxtram and the city authorities promised they would do all in their power ‘to minimise trouble and limit the impact on circulation.’
