An average speed camera records a vehicle's average speed between two points along a stretch of road and consequently provides a more accurate reading of whether or not drivers are speeding over a certain distance.
In this case, the stretch is around 3,900 m long. Cars are allowed to travel at 90 km/h while trucks can only travel at 75 km/h. A tolerance of 3 km/h is built into the system.
As a reminder, you will not yet be fined if you are speeding on the said stretch of the road as as this Friday has only kicked off the test phase of the new camera. The pictures of speeding vehicles will immediately be deleted again.
Luxembourg's National Roads Authority specified that the official launch date of the speed cameras will be announced in due time.
