Around 50 demonstrators gathered on Thursday morning in front of the Immigration Directorate building on Route d’Arlon in Luxembourg City.
The protest aimed to highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Syrian asylum seekers in Luxembourg. Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria in early December, the Luxembourg government has suspended decisions regarding the status of Syrian refugees – a situation mirrored in other European Union member states.
Demonstrators have expressed concerns that, since late 2024, affected individuals have been caught in limbo within administrative procedures, without receiving any formal response. According to the organisers of the demonstration, more than 800 Syrian asylum seekers are currently awaiting a decision on their status in the Grand Duchy.
