Ettelbruck train stationSwallows stop demolition works after one day

RTL Today
An order from the Ministry for the Environment put an end to the demolition works of the old train station 'with immediate effect' after only one day.

The reason: swallows’ nests will be disrupted during their nesting period, as will other protected species.

Moreover, the required authorisation for the works was not granted.

The demolition thus has to be halted effective immediately.

The train station building was inaugurated in 1862. There have been repeated attempts to integrate the historic building into the new project, but as a tunnel for car traffic will be built on the site, this was deemed impossible in the end. Part of the building could be integrated into the planned rail museum in Pétange, however.

The plan is to build a multimodal platform around the old train station site, with a large bus station, wider and longer train platforms and a modern administrative building.
