Following the fatal attack on a cross-border worker in Limpertsberg earlier this week, the Luxembourg judiciary is continuing its investigation. The public prosecutor’s office has announced that a suspect has been charged with murder.

The 35-year-old French victim from Guénange, near Thionville, was employed at a Luxembourg City real estate agency. Three days after her death, authorities confirmed the filing of charges.

After an interrogation lasting several hours on Thursday, an examining magistrate charged the 27-year-old suspect – a Belgian national not residing in Luxembourg – with murder, manslaughter, attempted murder, and grievous bodily harm. Murder, defined as a premeditated homicide, carries a potential sentence of life imprisonment. The court issued a committal warrant, and the suspect remains in custody.

The prosecutor’s office stated that the defendant “had arranged an appointment with his future victim in connection with a potential property transaction or rental”. No family connection existed between the suspect and the victims.

While the exact motives remain undisclosed, the investigation is still in a preliminary phase. “Numerous checks, investigative duties, and expert evaluations are still ongoing”, the prosecutor’s office noted.

In a positive update, the office confirmed that the second victim, who was seriously injured in the attack, is no longer in life-threatening condition.

The statement concluded by reaffirming that the presumption of innocence applies until a final verdict is delivered.
