Luxair will suspend all flights to Dubai until 6 February 2027, due to the current geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. The date is not set in stone, however, and may be changed depending on developments in the area.
The Luxembourg airline was also due to launch flights to new destination Abu Dhabi this October, but this has now been delayed to late 2027, for the same reason.
Luxair said it would contact customers affected by the cancellations from Tuesday onwards, to advise them of the options for reimbursement.
In an interview with Radio 100,7, Luxair CEO Gilles Feith confessed that 2026 had been a difficult year for the airline. Demand had dropped for certain destinations, leading to Luxair expecting a 6-7% drop in revenue. As temperatures slowly decline, however, the number of bookings has increased again. Feith said there had fortunately been no fuel shortages, and that he hoped the airline would regain some of the losses over the autumn and winter seasons.
Feith welcomed the news that United Airlines would offer a direct connection from Luxembourg to Newark starting April 2027, but at the same time, he hopes Luxair will still deliver for the regional market. New destinations will be considered, such as Albania or the Nordic countries, as the cancellation of flights to Dubai and Abu Dhabi could allow the aircraft to be used on alternative routes, or the frequency on other destinations could be increased.
