Orthopaedic surgeon Philippe Wilmes will remain suspended from performing surgeries, according to the Administrative Court. On Thursday, the doctor's lawyers issued a press release confirming the suspension has not been cancelled, despite their appeal. In April, the ministerial decision to suspend the surgeon was extended to 21 months. Although Dr Wilmes may not carry out any operations, he is permitted to hold consultations with patients.
The surgeon was accused of carrying out unnecessary knee operations, as determined by independent experts. He denies the claims. In May, the public prosecutor's office opened an investigation into charges of grievous bodily harm, but also forgery and fraud, among other things.
