After a new holiday was created in 2019 on May 9 for Europe Day, Luxembourg will not be adding another in December. On a visit to Nancy for the St Nicholas celebrations, in which Luxembourg was the guest of honour this year, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel confirmed that he would not be adding a 12th public holiday for Kleeschen.

More than 3,650 people signed a petition asking for 6 December to become a public holiday to encourage families to celebrate Kleeserchersdag. However, the Prime Minister said that although he agrees traditions are important, he felt that those who wished to celebrate could use annual leave instead.

Currently, the Ministry of Education decrees that children attending primary school are entitled to a day off on 6 December. For now, they will remain the only ones to benefit from this holiday.
