In a recent meeting, FEDIL expressed deep concern over the sector’s crisis and urged the incoming government, set to form after the 8 October elections, to dismantle existing barriers hindering effective mobilisation for housing development. The construction industry is grappling with one of its most severe crises, and FEDIL stressed the looming loss of skilled labour, which will be “sorely missed” when construction activity rebounds, as highlighted in their press release. The cumulative delays in construction over the years are seen as a significant drag on the country’s economic growth.
In addition to these concerns, FEDIL also lamented the recent strike at Cargolux and criticised certain trade union leaders for openly “celebrating” it, “which only damages the credibility of these trade unionists.”
Furthermore, FEDIL expressed profound concern regarding the persistently high absenteeism rates across all sectors, which are causing substantial availability and management challenges.
