“Its usage has seen a recent uptick among healthcare professionals and patients who are actively using their accounts,” explains Marc Hostert, the president of the eSanté Agency. This distinction is crucial for interpretation, as everyone possesses a DSP account, but its use depends on the individual’s health condition. Nonetheless, the trend is positive on both fronts.”
The figures remain mostly ambiguous as to how many unique users are behind the 45,600 consultations per month, although it has been disclosed that 5,673 are healthcare professionals. Upon enquiry by RTL, the eSanté Agency revealed that approximately 300 doctors are actively using the platform, a figure that stands in contrast to the over 2,000 practicing doctors in Luxembourg. Hence, there is still considerable ground to cover in terms of broad adoption.
The introduction of the “smart DSP” could be a convincing argument. The concept revolves around the DSP compiling various statistics that can help doctors to detect certain diseases more quickly. For example, in the case of cystic fibrosis, a rare disease that affects only eight to 12 people per 100,000 people. As a result, it can take a long time to make a diagnosis. But if the DSP were to detect markers indicative of the rare disease, it could send an alert to the relevant medical practitioners.
Hostert stresses that the eSanté Agency “is not doing the doctor’s job,” explaining that “it compiles statistical data to enhance the synergy between patients and doctors in addressing medical challenges.”
