To date, the country has only had one PET scanner, used primarily for cancer diagnostics, which is also situated at the CHL on Route d’Arlon. However, this scanner has been subjected to numerous technical issues, most recently failing at the start of October, leading to the rental of a replacement device.
This year alone, the existing scanner has failed twice as often as in 2022, and four times as much as in 2020.
The new device is estimated to be ready for use by January 2025, according to health minister Martine Deprez, who issued a written response to an urgent parliamentary question submitted by the DP.
