Asbestos checks were conducted at the town’s cultural hall, situated beside the barn which burned down. Fortunately, no asbestos was detected, meaning all upcoming events may proceed as planned.

The local school buildings were also checked for asbestos, with the municipal council confirming there was no risk for pupils and staff. The school will therefore remain open, although further checks are to take place over the weekend, as the asbestos measurements were taken with the ventilation systems switched off.

Earlier this week, residents of the municipality had been advised to keep their windows shut and to minimise outdoor activity in the area where the fire took place, after the discovery of asbestos in the barn roof, which was destroyed in the fire.

The fire was extinguished on Tuesday evening. On the same day, all asbestos-containing Eternit sheets were removed from the “Kierchepad” building, which is marked for demolition so it no longer poses a risk to the public.
