Many have questioned whether the controversial move will change anything on motorways. One of RTL's reporters drove on the motorways on Monday during the inaugural reduced speed limit to report on any potential changes.

According to our reporter, traffic flowed rather evenly. However, it is difficult to ascertain whether that is due to the new speed limit of 90 km/h. One instance did momentarily slow traffic down, namely a broken-down lorry just after the Belgian border. Once motorists passed the lorry, driving conditions improved and traffic flowed well again.

We should reiterate that our reporter's positive experience is likely also influenced by today marking the aftermath of the school holidays, which makes for less busy conditions on the road. Our reporter also noted that some sections of the motorway were too busy for anybody to drive faster than 90 km/h.

Nevertheless, our reporter spied a few drivers who were not respecting the new speed limits on the motorways. There was also no considerable police presence on the motorways and the police had not reported any speed cameras set up along the route.
