Legal battle beckonsRichtung22 artist collective defies eviction order from Esch cultural association

RTL Today
After receiving a 30 April eviction ultimatum from cultural association frEsch, artist group Richtung22 has announced it will not leave Bâtiment4 voluntarily, calling the demand unjustified and politically motivated.

The artist collective Richtung22 has refused to vacate Bâtiment4 by the 30 April deadline set by Esch-sur-Alzette’s cultural association frEsch, potentially setting the stage for a legal confrontation.

The group announced its stance Wednesday via its website, stating it would not voluntarily leave the premises. While the collective assures that it does not want to provoke a trial, it also refuses to be intimidated.

Richtung22 claims the eviction rationale remains unclear, describing its tenure at the space as marred by “stress, pressure, lies, and hostility” over the past year.

The collective alleges certain frEsch board members seek to eliminate their presence, framing the conflict as cultural censorship targeting leftist artistic perspectives.

Their statement specifically names frEsch President and member of the Esch municipal executive board (“Schäfferot”) Pim Knaff and director Loïc Clairet.

For its part, frEsch maintains Richtung22 violated established operational rules. The cultural association had previously threatened legal action if the collective failed to depart by month’s end.
