A Contacto article delineates how Portuguese workers are being recruited under false pretence in their native country, only to be forced to work up to 60 hours a week in Luxembourg, while receiving less money than previously agreed upon. The housing conditions of the workers are moreover described as inadequate. In 2015, RTL already uncovered a similar series of events at the very same construction firm.

The article further conveys that some workers have even chosen to leave the firm and their accommodations to take their chances on the streets. A 63-year-old witness describes incidents of employees being beaten. Meanwhile, the head of HP Construction has denounced any wrongdoing.

The Portuguese Ambassador has already entered into discussions with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate the alleged cases of human trafficking.
