CattenomReactor 3 back up and running after corrosion issues fixed

Cattenom's nuclear reactor number 3 was reconnected to the power grid on Tuesday, after it was shut down in 2022 because cracks were found in the conducts of the cooling system.

The shutdown did not affect electricity supply, with the Électricité de France (EDF), who runs the reactor, saying that it will reach “full power in the coming days”.

Inspectors from the French Agency for Nuclear Safety (ASN) prevented operators to restart the reactor earlier until the problem had been fully fixed.

The EDF proceeded to replace all four lines of the reactor’s safety injection circuit, which are used to rapidly cool down the reactor should it be required.
