In August 2024, five dogs died while staying at a boarding kennel in Bascharage, prompting an investigation by the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office into potential violations of animal protection laws.

Recently, searches were conducted at the kennel and two locations in France, with cooperation from French judicial authorities, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.

The public prosecutor’s office revealed that a toxic substance, identified as rat poison, was found during the autopsy of one of the dogs. The examination, carried out at the request of the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA), concluded that the animal’s death resulted from “a multifactorial event, including the ingestion of a toxic substance of the rat poison type.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and the public prosecutor’s office emphasised that the presumption of innocence applies to all parties involved.
