Breast Cancer Awareness Month got off to a good start this year with a charity run around Neumünster Abbey on Saturday, organised by Europa Donna, an association which supports women suffering from the disease. Around 2,000 people participated to help raise awareness of the illness, either walking or running the 4km circuit.

Europa Donna not only provides support for affected patients, but also offers relaxation courses. Breast cancer is the highest cause of death for women in Luxembourg aged between 50 and 69 years old. The Ministry of Health has been running the mammography programme for 25 years. Early diagnosis can greatly improve chances of beating the disease.

In the Grand Duchy, treatments are becoming more diverse, and heading in the right direction, according to Europa Donna.
The charity run has had great resonance in the past.
