Starting Thursday, 1 May, global energy company Q8 will assume operation of Europe’s two largest service stations along Luxembourg’s A3 motorway in Berchem. The four-year deal marks a significant expansion for the oil giant, which already operates nearly 40 stations in Luxembourg and 500 in Belgium.

The strategically located stations – frequented by thousands of cross-border commuters daily – boast the highest turnover in Europe, capable of serving up to 25,000 customers per day. Their acquisition positions Q8 as a key contender in Luxembourg’s competitive fuel market, while supporting government efforts to move beyond the country’s “petrol tourism” image.

“This step marks a major turning point in our growth strategy in Luxembourg,” said Alain Hecker, Q8’s Luxembourg Operations Manager. The sites, currently branded as Shell and Aral, will undergo a complete rebranding to the Q8 concept by June, with new signage appearing from 8 May.

Hecker emphasised the company’s focus on “comfort, service quality, and sustainability” in the transition.

From Thursday, Q8 will partially reopen half of the fuel pumps and the attached shops Delhaize and Panos. While initial offerings will be limited during the first week, full operational capacity is expected by 5 May, the company confirmed.

The Panos restaurant, serving a menu of sandwiches, salads, burgers, chips, pizza, and pasta, will open in phases: the westbound location on 18 May and the eastbound in early June.

Q8 also emphasised its commitment to sustainable mobility. Fast-charging stations operated by Chargy will be installed for electric vehicles, with 100% renewable HVO100 biofuel for lorries available at Berchem East “sometime in May.”

This forms part of a broader electrification push, including a recently opened City-Concorde charging hub and plans to equip five additional Luxembourg stations with Q8-branded fast chargers “by year’s end.”
