"Garden shed" debacleProminent figures in public sphere require more rigorous scrutiny

RTL Today
StopCorrupt calls for stronger regulation of public sphere, and the creation of an independent administrative control and sanction authority.

The Ethics Committee's jurisdiction should also be expanded in order to take care of all politicians and civil servants at both national and communal levels.

StopCorrupt, an organisation committed to greater transparency, reported an escalation of files concerning people who weren't acting with the common and public interest in mind. This was due to an obvious lack of regulation in this particular area, as well as the absence of an independent authoritative body.

StopCorrupt also lamented that the Ethics Committee only controls members of the government, and only under orders of the Prime Minister. According to the organisation, implementing rules of conduct and ethical standards through self-regulation is not enough.
