Luxembourg cleaner unfairly dismissedPortuguese state to pay more than €20,000 for unlawful termination at Portuguese embassy

The Portuguese state has been ordered to pay a substantial sum for unfairly dismissing a cleaner at their embassy in Luxembourg.

The OGBL trade union revealed the fine in a press conference, detailing that the court had found the state guilty of unlawful termination. The woman was dismissed without notice in writing and without valid cause. The embassy must now compensate the woman coming to a total exceeding €20,000.

These include:
- severance pay of €9,566
- pay for outstanding leave of €96.63
- compensation for moral damages of €10,000
- procedural compensation of €500

The woman had worked at the embassy for more than 25 years. The OGBL reiterated that it was supporting the dismissed cleaner and would assist her with coming procedures.
