A woman from Schrassig was scammed on Thursday after she clicked on a link contained in a fake Luxtrust email related to Wero and entered her personal details into a fraudulent website. Shortly afterwards, she received a phone call informing her that a supposed Luxtrust employee would come by to collect her credit cards.
At around 3pm, a man visited her home. Trusting the caller, the woman handed over her cards and PIN numbers. However, when the man also requested her jewellery, she became suspicious, and he quickly left. Despite this, she later discovered that a significant sum of money had already been withdrawn from her accounts. The police have launched an investigation.
Police are once again urging the public not to hand over cards, PIN codes, passwords, Luxtrust codes, or any valuables under any circumstances. They emphasise that Luxtrust, banks, and other reputable companies will never send someone to collect such items in person.
The police also advise extra caution when receiving emails, SMS messages, or phone calls claiming to be from Wero, Luxtrust, or banks, especially if they mention apparent security issues. In all cases, police strongly recommend never clicking on unknown links or QR codes, never confirming transactions that were not initiated by you, and ending any suspicious phone calls immediately.
