Motorists travelling in the south of Luxembourg, including cross-border commuters, are likely to have noticed a new speed camera along the A3 motorway this week. The temporary camera was installed midweek in the roadworks area to monitor drivers' compliance with the reduced speed limit.
The camera is positioned on the lanes heading towards France, specifically between Berchem and Bettembourg, where the maximum permitted speed is currently 70km/h due to ongoing construction work. The device is particularly noticeable for drivers using the right-hand lane of the motorway.
As highlighted on the Luxembourg police website, exceeding the speed limit by up to 25km/h on this stretch of the A3 will result in a fixed fine of €49.
Beyond the temporary speed camera, a new monitoring system for the carpool lane is also being trialled on the A3 between Berchem and the Gasperich interchange. Preventative checks conducted by police alongside this system have already resulted in several hundred motorists being fined.
