Upon arrival, officers spotted the suspected thief hiding behind a clothes rack, placing several items into a bag. When the suspect noticed the police at the front door, they abandoned the bag and attempted to flee.
The escape attempt was quickly thwarted by the police. The suspect then physically attacked the officers when asked for identification, resulting in a scuffle and the individual being restrained.
The police seized the suspect’s bag, which was found to be lined with aluminium foil. This material can block signals from security gates, rendering anti-theft tags undetectable and allowing thieves to exit stores undetected.
The suspect was arrested and is scheduled to appear before an examining magistrate on Friday.
