Police carried out more than 5,000 checks in the last five weeks in order to make sure that the ongoing safety measures and restrictions are respected.

On 18 March, the government implemented numerous precautionary measures and restricting to slow the spreading of the virus. Police have played a key role in enforcing the measures and making sure that the public adheres to the current regulations.

Up until 20 April, police carried out an average of 1,000 checks per week. This number is synonymous with around 140 checks per day. Police issued 1,600 fines because individuals disregarded the new measures. Another 60 shops and/or construction firms were fined for disrespecting the regulations.

As Police Minister François Bausch announced last Thursday, police will carry out an increased number of checks on construction sites next week. Officers will primarily check whether or not workers are wearing the mandatory face masks.
