The Vespa driver believes he had the right of way, as the traffic lights were green as he went to turn left from Place de la Gare to Avenue de la Liberté. However, according to the Vespa driver, a police vehicle came speeding from the lefthand side, running through a red light. The police vehicle had neither its lights nor sirens on, the Vespa driver said, and further witnesses who could corroborate the events.
The police car crashed into the Vespa, injuring the motorcyclist. The man had to be taken to hospital and was found to have two broken legs.

The police tested the motorcyclist for alcohol and drugs, both of which came back with negative results. The officers allegedly explained to the victim that they ran through the red light as they had been called as back-up to a separate patrol.
The parties have not yet completed an accident report, the Vespa driver told RTL, as he was taken straight to hospital after the accident occurred.

After our colleagues at RTL contacted the police for further information, the police confirmed that there had been a collision between a police vehicle and a Vespa on Place de la Gare at 12.07 am on Tuesday morning. The police spokesperson also confirmed the motorcyclist had been injured, but failed to confirm or deny the version of the events as told by the victim.
