The “LTPS” will consist of 45 classes, with facilities for around 1,200 pupils seeking to build careers in healthcare. It is expected to open its doors in September 2024.
The school will benefit from a purpose-built kitchen for practical lessons, an amphitheatre, canteen and a sports hall. The building itself will be fitted with nearly 1,800 square metres of photovoltaic panels to provide sustainable energy sources.
In addition to the school, accommodation will be provided in a structure next door, with space for 35 student rooms so pupils can live on campus if required.
The campus in Mamer will also be outfitted with a sports centre containing a swimming pool, for the speech therapy centre, in the form of a monolith.
The first phase of construction will focus on the accommodation building and the sports centre, while the school itself will form part of phase two. Construction began in September 2021.
Minister of Health Paulette Lenert said the Covid crisis demonstrated the importance of providing training for sufficient nurses in Luxembourg. Education minister Claude Meisch added that the new school represents a prerequisite for continuing to train highly qualified personnel for the health professions, while François Bausch said it was vital that such constructions take place using sustainable materials and make use of the latest technology for renewable energies.
