Parents are left without choices if they are unable to afford to spend more time with their children, the Pirate Party said on Friday, as they hit out at the current system in place.

In a press conference, Ben Polidori said that parents who take care of their children themselves instead of sending them to nursery receive no financial compensation. As a result, the Pirates have called for the introduction of a cash childcare service voucher scheme.

The party also criticised the current post-birth paternity leave entitlement, which is just ten days, calling it “unjust”.
