Motorists travelling on the A4 motorway towards the Gasperich interchange may have noticed signs indicating that petrol is currently unavailable at the service station in Pontpierre, southern Luxembourg. According to the Motorway Information and Traffic Centre (CITA), the disruption affects the new service station in the direction of Esch-sur-Alzette.
Officials explained that scheduled maintenance work is being carried out on the new service station, with advance warnings posted on electronic boards to inform motorists. CITA confirmed there is no underlying fuel shortage.
A maintenance team spokesperson stated that these essential works, which are required every five years, are expected to be completed by around 4pm on Tuesday. Despite the maintenance, service station remains accessible and the shop is still open.
There are also no restrictions for motorists wishing to charge their electric vehicles. However, further work will require lorry access to the station to be closed again on Wednesday morning to allow for the final stage of the maintenance.
The National Roads Administration (Ponts et Chaussées) has installed safety barriers to ensure security during the maintenance period.
