A period of high temperatures and continued lack of rain is having a significant impact on Luxembourg’s agricultural sector. While the final assessment of the grain harvest, known locally as the "Karschnatz", will not be made until the end of August, it is already clear that the 2026 harvest is concluding much earlier than usual.

Steve Turmes, Director of the Luxembourg Agricultural Seed Cooperative (LSG), confirms that farmers are weeks ahead of schedule.

"We are seeing a very early harvest this year. I think by the end of the week, most farmers in the country will have finished threshing", Turmes explains. "To my knowledge, this has only happened once before, back in 1976. It is remarkable that, as July comes to a close and August begins, nearly all the combine harvesters are back in storage and the grain is already threshed."

The final figures on this year’s grain harvest will be presented on 26 August.
