An open petition launched by the association "Refill Lëtzebuerg" demands customers' rights to free drinking water, similar to other countries.
The petition 1319 has now received sufficient signatures to be debated in parliament. By Tuesday morning, the petition had reached over 5,000 signatures - with only 4,500 required for debate.
The organisers hope to reduce water transport and imports through their project.
The petition for free tap water in restaurants and cafés can be signed up until Friday 30 August.
