On Monday, 21 August, a pair of passers-by fell victim to an attack in the late afternoon. The incident occurred on Rue St. Ulric, situated in Luxembourg City’s Grund district. The victims reported to the police that they were confronted by a group of four young individuals who approached them under the pretext of seeking a cigarette.
What began as a seemingly innocuous interaction took a turn when one of the assailants attempted to seize a backpack from one of the victims. A confrontation ensued, during which the young man threatened the victim with a knife. The aggressors proceeded to physically assault the victims, forcibly taking their valuables before fleeing the scene. The police swiftly initiated a search operation, but were unable to find the perpetrators.
On the same evening, a similar assault occurred in Dudelange. A young man came forward to report an incident at a bus stop adjacent to the station. He detailed how he was accosted by another young individual who forcibly snatched his necklace, accompanied by threats of violence. Like the previous incident, the search for the perpetrator was unsuccessful.
Investigations have been initiated for both cases.
In a separate occurrence, police in Pétange responded to reports of an intoxicated individual causing disturbance at a local bar on Route de Luxembourg. In light of the individual’s aggressive behaviour, he was placed in police custody overnight to sober up.
