A passenger fleeing a routine drink-driving checkpoint in Medernach was arrested after a foot chase, during which police discovered a significant quantity of cannabis in their possession.

A routine roadside check in Medernach on Saturday night escalated into a foot chase, resulting in the arrest of one of the vehicle’s passengers.

The incident began just after 12.30am during a drink-driving checkpoint ordered by the public prosecutor’s office. As officers approached the vehicle to inspect its documents, they immediately noticed a strong smell of cannabis emanating from inside. Before they could act, one of the occupants abruptly fled on foot.

Several police officers pursued the suspect, though one officer sustained minor injuries during the chase. The fugitive was eventually apprehended and found in possession of a bag containing 350 grams of cannabis. The drugs were seized on the orders of the public prosecutor’s office, and an official report was filed. The suspect was subsequently arrested.

Mugging in Gare neighbourhood

Additionally, a mugging was reported on Monday afternoon in the Gare neighbourhood of Luxembourg City. According to initial reports, two assailants restrained a person and stole their wallet near the central railway station. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
