Luxembourg's police force have had to intervene on multiple occasions in recent weeks, as young people gather in large groups and tend to ignore safety measures.
The Kinnekswiss has fast become the go-to location for small-scale parties and even the letting off of fireworks. In some instances, fights and thefts were also reported.
Naturally, this has opened the floor for new discussions on how to tackle the problem. City officials want to ensure that police react in a proportionate manner to the infringements, which means that officers prioritise deescalation tactics rather than a heavy-handed approach to arrests when addressing the people on Kinnekswiss.
Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer has meanwhile noted that a closing of the park is not considered to be an option, although some areas, such as the "Three Acorns Park", have already fallen victim to this measure.
