The objective of the study, launched 4 years ago in Luxembourg, is to improve diagnosis of Parkinson's and to allow for better treatments. The study is funded by the National Research Fund.

1,400 people, with and without the disease, have taken part in the study over the last four years. Now, the research team is looking for 200 additional volunteers to participate in the study's second phase.

The team aims to determine the exact causes of the disease, and to explore new ways which will permit doctors to improve diagnosis, treatments, and find preventative measures. The study is being carried out in association with the various research centres in the Grand Duchy.

The National Research Fund has invested around €8.3 million in the project to date, with another six million euros forecast for the second phase.
