On Monday morning there was another joint meeting with the Justice and Interior Security commissions. Over two and a half hours they debated records and data privacy, amongst others with previous representatives of the responsible controlling authorities.

It became ever clearer that the main problem consists of the handling of the records, and the fact that there are no sufficient regulations in place. This, in any case, seemed to be the general tone and message the parliamentary opposition put forward, and while Green Ministers Bausch and Braz made promises of transparency, they were slow on providing actual clarifications and avoided definitive action.

According to Christian Social People's Party deputy Gilles Roth, it seemed as if they were trying to put off dealing with the situation and to return to the status quo since it had “worked for 20 years and would continue doing so”.

In any case it became clear that the issue would remain a priority throughout the summer. According to the CSV, it was also important to hear further testimonies.

The Left on the other hand have not ruled out a Commission of Inquiry.

The Alternative Democratic Reform Party stated that it was the ministers’ duty to provide the necessary support to those concerned.

President of the Justice commission Charles Marque of the Green Party agreed in general with the criticism, however he was of the opinion that Justice Minister Felix Braz and Police Minister François Bausch were doing their best to generate more transparency when it came to the records, however considering the general complexity of the issue, this would not be a quick procedure.
