The verdict in this case finally came at the Luxembourg tribunal Thursday afternoon after a 16 month wait for an expert report.
The defendant was sentenced to one year in prison and a €1,000 fine for assaulting another man in front of a nightclub in Pétange in April 2015. He had punched the victim in the face, who was awarded €2,000 in damages.
The reason for the long delay was the need for an expert report to determine the injuries of the victim.
The report concluded that some of the victim's wounds were from before the assault and were therefore not linked to the attack itself.
