A recent study underscores the significant strain faced by healthcare personnel during the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe.
The research found that one in four nurses exhibited symptoms of severe depression, while staff working in intensive care units often reported high levels of stress and anxiety.
The study revealed that nursing staff experienced notably higher anxiety levels compared to their physician counterparts, particularly among those who had direct contact with Covid-19 patients.
This survey involved nearly 1,400 healthcare workers. A research group from the rehabilitation clinic of the Centre Hospitalier Neuro-Psychiatrique (CHNP) participated in the study.
One particularly striking finding indicated that nurses who frequently engaged with social media experienced elevated stress levels and more pronounced anxiety disorders. According to a statement from the CHNP, the study highlights the urgent need to support frontline nursing staff and intensive care personnel to alleviate ongoing psychological distress.
