Two separate incidents of drunk-driving led to the suspension of driver's licences, though the circumstances differed significantly.

The first driver was discovered asleep behind the wheel, causing an obstruction on Rue de Leudelange in Bertrange around 5.45pm on Wednesday. A police patrol found the driver shortly afterwards and revoked their driving licence after they tested positive for alcohol.

In the early hours of Thursday, around 2.45am, a different police patrol encountered a motorist travelling at an exceptionally high speed along Avenue John F. Kennedy in Luxembourg City/Kirchberg. Subsequent checks confirmed that this driver was also operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, resulting in the confiscation of their driving licence.

In addition, the police carried out alcohol controls on the orders of the public prosecutor’s office at various locations on Wednesday evening, specifically in Keispelt, Mensdorf, Bridel, and Munsbach. In total, 404 drivers were checked. In two cases, the breathalyser test came back positive and the police issued a penalty notice and a fine, respectively. In addition, three drivers were unable to present a tax sticker and in two cases the technical inspection certificate had expired.
