The main victims were pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.

In 2020, 26 people lost their lives on the roads of the Grand Duchy. This is four more than the previous year, Bausch stated on Tuesday.

This is in part due to an increase in the number of cyclists who died as a result of a road accident (three deaths, compared to nil the previous year), as well as motorcyclists (seven, compared to four in 2019) and pedestrians (four, compared to two in 2019).

Conversely, the number of car driver deaths decreased (seven, compared to twelve in 2019), as did passenger deaths (two, compared to four in 2019).

The total number of accidents decreased, as did the number of seriously injured people (217, -13%) and slightly injured people (744, -29%).

The main causes of serious and fatal accidents remain, unsurprisingly, excessive and inappropriate speed (23%), manoeuvring errors (13%), offences against pedestrians (12%), and alcohol (11%).
