Table tennis star Ni Xia Lian and shot put athlete Bob Bertemes will carry the Luxembourg flag at Friday’s opening ceremony for the Paris Games. Both were selected for their athletic prowess and successful careers so far. This will be the sixth Games for Ni Xia Lian, while Bob Bertemes is set to appear for the second time, although he is likely to bring his professional career to an end following the Olympics.
The Luxembourg Olympic and Sports Committee (COSL) declared they are mostly satisfied with the Olympic village in Paris. Despite issues with the quality and quantity of the food, they said there had been improvements since the village opened. Conzemius added that transport for athletes was undergoing several teething issues ahead of the Games’ start on Friday, with extensive queues and drivers who did not seem to know where they were going. However, the Luxembourg delegation has been in contact with organisers and the IOC since.
The COSL themselves have set up a base in Paris to support Luxembourg’s athletes, complete with a full medical team. As the athletes must be careful to avoid illness during the games, Conzemius mentioned they could implement Covid measures to stay healthy in Paris. At present, everyone is said to be in good health, the chef de mission concluded.
