Watch outNew phone scam reported in Luxembourg

RTL Today
Scammers have increasingly been making calls using the Irish +353 area code, which is very similar to the Luxembourgish +352.

The callers claim to be Microsoft employees and tell their victims that their PC has a virus. The victims are then asked to download a software, which is supposed to solve the issue.

In reality, the software is used to spy on and potentially blackmail the users and in some cases, the victims are also asked to pay a certain amount of money for “services rendered”.

The government initiative BEE SECURE advices the general public to be wary of calls from unknown numbers and not blindly follow instructions from someone they do not know.
