Feller noted: “Our numbers are climbing again as of yesterday, but it is still too early to call it a trend. We will have to see how the next few days unfold. Naturally, the prevalence among older and vaccinated people is lower than that of the younger generations, who are still waiting for their jab.”
66% of adults in Luxembourg have received at least one dose, while 46% count as fully vaccinated. It currently seems as though people under the age of 30 are less prone to accept the invitation, but Feller noted that a lot of letters still need to be sent out.
As of this week, adolescents below the age of 18 will be invited. Feller underlined that they will either have to be accompanied by one of their parents when going to the vaccination centre, or hand in a signed form.
For a first time in thirteen weeks, new infections have risen, that from 90 to 107. At the same time, the number of contacts have decreased from 396 to 353. Between 21 and 27 June, 39,181 tests were executed, 16,000 fewer than during the previous week.
17 people alerted the authorities to the positive result of a rapid test, which was professionally executed. Since the introduction of rapid tests, 211 such cases have been communicated to public health officials. Last week, no positive result was found.
When it comes to the number of active infections, they decreased from 234 to 142 over the course of last week. By now, 69,682 people have recovered from a positive infection.
The average age of positively tested people increased from 27.7 to 28.4. Most infections are still traced back to family members (21.5%), followed by travel to foreign countries (15%), and leisure activities (13.8%). In 40.2% of cases, no infection origin could be determined.
Last week was the third one in a row where no patient died in relation to Covid-19. In hospitals, the situation remains stable with three patients in normal care and two in intensive care.
On the other hand, the reproduction rate has increased from 0.58 to 0.92. Similarly, the incidence rate climbed from 14 to 17 new infections per 100,000 citizens. 370 people were affected by quarantine measures (-28%), while 287 people had to isolate (-38%).
Between 21 and 27 June, 44,000 vaccine doses were administered. 35,613 residents received their first jab, while 8,448 received the second one. As of 30 June, 542,793 shots have been administered. 232,222 people are fully vaccinated.
When it comes to coronavirus variants, the Ministry of Health has not provided any details in its weekly review due to technical difficulties. Analyses from the country’s water purification plants show that numbers from the past two weeks have remained stable.
