Barbara Agostino, a Democratic Party (DP) MP and president of the Parliamentary Education Committee, was taken to hospital for examination after fainting at the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 9am, causing the live broadcast of the committee meeting to be abruptly interrupted. Viewers witnessed visible commotion in the room as other MPs were informed that Agostino had fainted outside the meeting area and rushed to assist.
Reporters from RTL, present in the building for a separate finance committee meeting, observed the arrival of an ambulance and the Emergency Medical Assistance Team (SAMU).
When contacted, the 43-year-old MP and municipal councillor from Pétange confirmed to RTL that she had been transported to the hospital as a precaution. “I’m doing well now, but I’m overworked”, she explained, adding that doctors have strongly advised her to reduce her workload for a period.
In response, Agostino stated she intends to follow this medical advice and will suspend her political activities for the next two weeks.
In addition to her political roles, Agostino has operated a fairground business since 2022.
