Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer personally alerted police to an act of vandalism at the Notre-Dame cemetery on Sunday after discovering desecrated graves and a damaged morgue.

An act of vandalism was committed on Sunday at the Notre-Dame cemetery in Limpertsberg, near the Glacis.

Police confirmed to RTL that an investigation is underway, particularly as the morgue was also damaged. According to L'Essentiel, Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer personally notified the police after she visited a grave to lay flowers.

The windows of the morgue were smashed, and the door was severely damaged. Additionally, flowers were uprooted, pots were overturned, and graves were desecrated.

When questioned about the incident, police confirmed that a patrol had been despatched to the scene and that forensic experts were also in attendance.

The ongoing investigation aims to clarify the exact circumstances of the vandalism and to track down the perpetrators.
