“Uni.lu has fulfilled a number of missions,” said Mesich, “ensuring quality education, educating more young people at high academic levels and attracting students from other countries.

“It has also achieved excellence in the field of research and put Luxembourg on the map in terms of international studies. At the same time this has had a positive impact on our country, so the country’s social, societal and economic development can benefit from it.”

A new course offered by the University of Luxembourg is a bachelor’s degree for teaching in primary schools, Both the university and the Ministry have expressed pride at other new additions, such as new training in the field of nursing, and the bachelor’s degree and other specialised courses in medicine.

Minister Meisch said he personally favours the creation of a full master’s degree in medical studies; however, this is not just a political decision, he explained, as it would largely depend on other factors, such as hospitals’ capacity for clinical training.

The minister added that over 33,000 students have been granted a scholarship for the academic year 2022/23.
