According to Roland Kuhn, the government has been issuing fewer public tenders, resulting in construction companies having less work than usual.
As a guest speaker on RTL Radio this Wednesday, Kuhn appealed to the state to publish more tenders, otherwise companies might have to lay people off.
When following up with the relevant ministry, RTL was told that the figures do not show any substantial reduction in tenders. It is the ‘absolute priority’ of the government and the Ministry of Public Works to keep investment and infrastructure high so that companies also receive orders.
This year alone, the government is expected to spend a record of over 1.1 billion euros on public infrastructure. In terms of submissions, 443 went out last year and 440 this year. In addition, 11 legislative projects for major infrastructure projects totalling almost 1.4 billion euros were approved this year.
