The Grand Duke and Grand Duchess are set to travel to Metz on Monday, 28 September 2026, to take part in official events surrounding the visit of Pope Leo XIV to France.
In the morning, the Grand Duke will be welcomed at the Metz Congress Centre by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron.
As part of the official programme, the Grand Duke will attend the event "At the roots of Europe for peace and unity", during which Pope Leo XIV is scheduled to deliver a speech. This gathering also serves as a tribute to Robert Schuman, one of the founding fathers of the European Union.
Later in the afternoon, the Grand Duchess will join the Grand Duke in Metz. Together, Their Royal Highnesses will attend a mass celebrated by Pope Leo XIV at the Saint-Étienne Cathedral.
RTL will be broadcasting the papal visit live from Metz from 9.20am on Monday, with commentary provided by Roy Grotz and Auxiliary Bishop Leon Wagener. The coverage will be available both on television and via online stream.
