International Day for Older PersonsMinistry of Family Affairs warns of risk of social isolation in older people

RTL Today
The Ministry of Family Affairs has expressed concerns over the risk of social isolation among pensioners, as part of International Day for Older Persons on 1 October.

Social isolation can be traced back to several factors: a drop in social contacts, health issues, or mobility difficulties.

The ministry has therefore reiterated the importance of looking out for the elderly.

On 16 November, the Bonnevoie culture centre will hold an event for older people to make new acquaintances and exchange ideas for hobbies and interests, coordinated by the non-profit RBS-Center fir Altersfroen, a service which provides support and information for older people, in tandem with the City of Luxembourg and the Ministry of Family Affairs.

More than 120,000 senior citizens live in Luxembourg, according to a recent Statec report. The oldest resident is 111 years old. There are currently 19 clubs aimed at senior citizens in the Grand Duchy.
