On Tuesday morning, Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Lex Delles, Minister of the Economy Franz Fayot, Minister for Energy Claude Turmes, and Minister for the Environment Joëlle Welfring presented the Climate Pact for Businesses (Klimapakt fir Betriber). This initiative will bring together measures and financial support from the Ministries of the Environment, Economy, Small and Medium-sized Businesses, and Energy, offering individual advice to businesses.

Welfring explained that besides providing applicants with better information on which financial support is available, the initiative also aims at offering guidance and “very clear advice.” With Luxinnovation and the Climate Agency, the government has “very committed, experienced people who will look after companies to provide decarbonisation proposals.”

The Minister for the Environment added that “this is about getting away from fossil fuels and proposing alternatives, but also closing loops.” Protecting resources, Welfring argued, “is also protecting the climate and protecting the climate is protecting our future.”

Without the 36,000 SMEs, Luxembourg will not be able to meet its climate targets by 2030, Minister for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises Lex Delles stressed. “It is difficult, if not impossible, to imagine that we could pull off effective climate protection without all these companies,” he said.

According to the Minister, “it is precisely these small companies that […] install heat pumps and solar panels or insulate facades.” Delles recognised, however, that SMEs face significant difficulties in decarbonising production processes, insulating warehouses and buildings, and rethinking their mobility concepts in a more climate-friendly way.

This is a difficult time for companies and therefore also an important moment to make the right investment decisions, Minister for Energy Claude Turmes added. “And the Climate Pact will make it as easy as possible for companies to make these decisions,” according to the Minister.
